Metrics

Every metric Stalwart collects is listed below, grouped by subsystem. Each metric has an identifier (formatted as <subsystem>.<name>), a unit, the names under which the exporters publish it, and a description.

The identifier is the name used inside Stalwart, by alerts, the metric expression function and the WebUI dashboard. The unit is the one in which the server records the metric. The OpenTelemetry column gives the name and the UCUM unit sent by the OpenTelemetry exporter, and the Prometheus column the name served by the Prometheus endpoint. Both exporters report durations in seconds, although the server records them in milliseconds. Exported names explains how the exported names are derived.

A histogram appears in Prometheus as three series that start with the listed name: _bucket, with one sample per bucket bound in the le label, _sum and _count. The delivery attempt histogram, for example, is queried as stalwart_delivery_attempt_time_seconds_bucket, stalwart_delivery_attempt_time_seconds_sum and stalwart_delivery_attempt_time_seconds_count.
